Newell R. Kitchen

Soil Scientist – USDA-Agricultural Research Service, University of Missouri

Kitchen is a Soil Scientist with the Cropping Systems and Water Quality Research Unit of the USDA-Agricultural Research Service in Columbia, MO, and an Adjunct Professor with University of Missouri. Dr. Kitchen earned his B.S. degree from Brigham Young University, M.S. degree from University of Missouri, and Ph.D. degree from Colorado State University. He is recognized for developing relationships of crop growth to soil and landscape variability; these contributions have helped shape the science of precision agriculture. Research highlights include relating on-the-go soil sensing to soil characteristics and crop yield, producing tools for delineating within-field management zones, and developing strategies for variable-rate N applications.
